"Not all those who wander are
lost.” –J.R.R. Tolkein
In this blog, my hunger leads the
way to television gossip and fancy food without fine dining.
The Bucu’s are my family and we all suffer with an uncanny inability to
say no to delicious food! Phrases like… “You’re poor!” OR “You’re on a diet!”
do not posess any strength when it comes to a delicious night eating out!
Unfortunately for me, my entire extended family basically all have this same
problem. I guess you can say it’s in our genes. My grandma had her own
restaurant back in the Philippines and my favorite cousin, for obvious reasons,
is a chef!
Our solution to this problem is what we’ve termed “Gourmet Night.” The
phrase “You’re poor!” cannot get in the way of eating delicious food on gourmet
night in our home. However, “You’re on a diet!” can! Oh well… Us Bucu’s have
accepted that we will never be on a diet… EVER!
So what is gourmet night?! Well, it all started when I was younger to
be a Sunday night tradition. My parents would comb through cookbooks and foodie
mags to find new and delicious recipes to try. They would prepare the meals and
I would get the best job… Plating the dishes and turning the meals into an
artistic masterpiece! Then in typical Asian fashion… No one, I repeat NO ONE,
is allowed to eat anything until the meal is thoroughly photographed at all
angles!
What happens next? Do we eat at the dining table with perfectly placed
settings? Do we discuss our daily lives? NO! We sit in the living room. Plop
out those folding tables (Yea, you know what I’m talking about) and watch TV. My
parents will never stop loving Survivor and I will never win in trying to
convince my parents to watch any of the Bravo Housewives. But this is what we
Bucu’s do… Have fancy TV dinners and eat in a manner that fine diners would
frown upon. And dearest readers, this is what the blogs about… A combination of
foodie gossip and criticisms on the latest and greatest in entertainment
scattered with a few foodie adventures in the Tri-state area! Like I said, we
Bucu’s have an inability to say no to delicious food, may it be from a
restaurant or from our own kitchen! Start salivating!
